Books + Bagels
Hey babes! We want YOU to join us in a monthly book club!!! Each month, we will be sharing the book that Hailey and I are going to be reading and when our book club event will be. We want you to join us in a morning full of toasted bagels, piping hot coffee or cocoa, and in-depth conversation. Come get to know us and learn more about yourself as we dive into reading, self discovery and growth. Why is this important to us and something we want to offer our Meraki community? Because, Meraki Collective is not just a fun and fashion forward place to shop. It’s a place to really let the things that speak to your soul shine. It’s a place to indulge in the things that make you the happiest and a place of growth. Whether you’re shopping with us, reading with us, attending an event or sharing your amazing style and life creations with us, we want to help you dig down deep and find your meraki. Indulge in a little soul, creativity and love.
It is no secret that reading regularly is good for you and something you should do. Reading has been pushed on us since elementary school - who else remembers read-a-thons? Those were some of my favorite days! Heading off to school in your pajamas with your backpack full of treats, your favorite blanket and a book you would spend all day cozied up reading. Oh to be a kid again! Let’s make reading fun, make some friends along the way and maybe even improve our health. Everydayhealth.com shares 7 great health benefits you get from reading a little everyday and why it’s important to pick up this positive habit. What are these incredible benefits?
#1 - Manage Stress. Reading allows you to escape your everyday life for just a moment and become fully immersed in something else. Reading also calls you to create the images of the story yourself as opposed to watching a movie. So your creative side is at work and you’re leaving the worries of the day behind.
#2 - Improve Mental wellbeing - It’s proven that reading helps increase your mindfulness and decreases anxiety and depression.
#3 - Increase your Vocabulary - yes you can still learn even though you left school ages ago! We should always be striving to learn, improve our comprehension and grow our vocabulary. We read to our young children to help them learn new words, so it should be the same for us!
#4 - Self Identity - Diving deep into any type of literature can help you to learn a little bit more about yourself. Whether you identify with a character in a fictional story, or learn a new skill or hobby through reading or engage on a path of healing and self improvement through various self-help books- reading is sure to expand your knowledge and open up your mind. Learn a little more about yourself by just picking up a new book at your local library.
#5 - Improve Relationships - Reading regularly can increase your ability to empathize with people. You may read something from a different perspective, learn about a time period or a group of people that you were previously unfamiliar with. You can then take those new perspectives into your real relationships with those close to you and improve them.
#6 - Improve Cognitive Function - Reading makes you smarter!! Children read lots to improve their knowledge and improve brain function and the same is true for adults. You should never stop learning and never stop exercising your brain.
#7 - Improve Lifespan - Add all of these beautiful health benefits up and you’ve got a longer and fuller life ahead of you!
If creating a daily reading habit sounds like something you want to sign up for, then let us be apart of that journey with you! It’s way more fun to do new things together with a community of like minded people. We kicked off our first Books + Bagels as sisters. We challenged each other to read How to Build a Goddamn Empire by Ali Kriegsman. For us, this was a great book to dive into when starting up our business. We are newbie entrepreneurs and need all the advice we can get. What better place to start than a book written by a young female entrepreneur. She breaks down all the pieces of building a business and brand in relatable stories and easy to digest details. We had so much fun reading along together and discussing certain themes and sharing things we were learning. Once completing the book, we met at Hailey’s house for a casual breakfast of bagels, fruit, juice and coffee. Sporting our favorite Meraki Movement Set, we gathered around her dining room table with our books, bagels and cute little kiddos for the funnest book club I’ve ever been to!
This month’s book is Never Never by Colleen Hoover + Tarryn Fisher. We’ve read multiple books by both of these authors and are so excited to jump head first into this thrilling romance novel. Read along with us and watch for details on our in person Books + Bagels! We want to see you there.
