It’s an easy statement that can make any room in your home feel refreshed and lighten things up after a dreary winter. We will walk you through the 4 standard steps of creating a flawless arrangement with easy to remember best practices. You’ll be a floral pro in no time!
Choose Your Vase
First thing’s first - your flowers need a home. The options are endless when it comes to choosing a vase and there are several factors to consider; the size of the bouquet, color scheme, season or time of year, the space the bouquet will be in, etc. You’ll also want to consider the type of material you want in your vase. ProFlowers.com breaks down 14 different vase shape materials and what types of arrangements look stunning in the various styles. Meraki Collective’s favorite vase option is our Gharyan Stoneware Pitcher - either the matte white or matte black! These custom, handmade pitchers bring an elegant country garden flare to your home and are truly one of a kind pieces. Your floral arrangement is sure to stand out against the matte finish and the ethnic-contemporary designs combine the purity of form with individual artistry to create a visual feast for the eyes.
2. Choose a Focal Flower + Color Scheme
Here comes the fun part - the color!! There is absolutely no wrong answer when deciding what your focal flower is. You can select one based off of the time of year, which flower reflects your current style or mood or just use your all time favorite and go to flower! For this bouquet, we have chosen to use tulips because it is finally Spring and what flower screams spring and Easter more than tulips?! You can also pick a focal flower based on the color scheme you want to incorporate. For us, we knew we wanted to use tulips and they come in a variety of colors so we had to decide what color palette we wanted to incorporate. After perusing the floral section of Trader Joe’s, we just couldn’t say no to these bright and vibrant hot pink tulips! FiftyFlowers.com has an extensive list of focal flowers, filler and more. They break down the endless options. Check it out for inspo or hit up your local flower shop!
3. Add a Filler Flower
Filler flowers add color and dimension to your bouquet. Refer again to FiftyFlowers.com and their recommended floral pairings or use your eye and better judgement for what looks good to you! It’s important to pick flowers that compliment your focal flower in size and color. We complimented our pink tulips with some light purple wax-flower. Wax-flower’s are dainty flowers with a powerful, color pop that contrasted beautifully with the large pink petals of the tulips. To help understand what colors go well together in a bouquet, check out FlowerPatchDelivery.com’s recommendations. They share 3 color tips to keep your bouquet aesthetically beautiful. The most obvious advice? Think back to kindergarten days and don’t forget about complimentary colors!
4. Greenery
Your bouquet is almost complete and is sure to brighten up any room it’s placed! Lastly, add some greenery as a backdrop for all the vibrant, gorgeous flowers. Just like there are endless varieties of focal and filler flowers, there are overwhelming options of greenery to choose from so have fun with it! Some of the most popular options of greenery include: eucalyptus, lemon leaf, Italian ruscus, leatherleaf, salal tips, huck greenery and cocculus. Place your chosen greenery throughout the bouquet until it is full and balanced.
